Authorised Economic Operator (AEO)
Persons and companies with AEO status are considered reliable with regard to the security of the international supply chain.
This means that the authorised economic operator is granted simplified security-related controls. It is accepted by states with which Switzerland has signed an agreement to this effect.
Discussions on the security of international supply chains and the related legal regulations for international freight transport have increased considerably in recent years.
After the USA, the EU has also introduced regulations to secure the supply chain and has supplemented its customs code with a “Security Amendment”. The security measures apply to import, export and transit of goods.
In this context, the EU introduced the status of Authorised Economic Operator (AEO). Companies obtaining this status can benefit from simplified security-related customs controls.
Companies with AEO status are considered particularly reliable and trustworthy and benefit from simplified security-related customs controls in both customs areas due to mutual acceptance of the AEO status
